About Yakass.net

Yakass.net is an online shrine to all things related to coastal kayak fishing and is the spiritual successor to Yakabout.com.au, which was originally built as an online journal for an 8-month coastal kayak fishing expedition undertaken by Josh Holmes in 2007. Soon after Josh's journey came to an end Yakabout began evolving into an information portal on the sport in general. Slowly but surely as more and more content was added it's audience grew and soon started out-growing itself. In late 2009 Josh rebuilt the site from scratch to better accommodate the direction of content and community following it. 'Yakass' was born. Late 2011 Yakass.net was rebuilt again, once again to keep up with growth and trends, now heavily community driven.
Yakass.net is a feature and content-rich website with many user options, primarily driven by the Yakbook user profile system. It also features user-made videos, user weblogs, user submitted fishing spots (members only), gear reviews, articles, trip & destination reports, shoutbox & live-chat, forums, private message systems and more. It is also the home of 'Yakass Coastal kayak Fishing Show' (YCKFS), the spiritual successor to Josh's first online show, 'War on Fish'; appearing on youtube regularly, YCKFS features the highlights of Josh's kayak fishing adventures and includes various guides and 'how-to DIY' segments, gear reviews, destination & trip reports as well as the occaisional special guests. With a mandate to appeal to all salt-water fishos, YCKFS aims to entertain, inform & inspire.
Yakass is updated frequently, so users are encouraged to bookmark the site and check back often. To get the most out of Yakass.net, it is recommended to register as a member, and create a Yakbook profile as many of the website features are only viewable & accessible to members.
Yakass.net is a labour of love run by Josh Holmes (founder, admin & snr editor) and Jay Penfold (assistant editor & social networking manager) and features content (in the form of articles, reports, blogs and videos) from various guest contributors
