Yakass website FAQ

Q: Who is behind this website?
A: yakass.net was founded by Josh Holmes, who built it as a rebuild of his old website, yakabout.com.au, which was originally created as an online journal for a solo 8-month east coast kayak fishing odyssey. Yakabout evolved to Yakass, which continued to evolve into what it is today. Josh is the chief editor at Yakass.net, website administrator and creator of Yakass Coastal kayak Fishing Show. Jay Penfold recently joined forces with Yakass as assistant editor.
Yakass.net is heavily community driven with many regular contributors that produce articles, videos and all members have access to tool that allow them to contribute to the site in numerous ways.
Q: What is the purpose of this website?
A: Yakass.net is a digital shrine to the sport of kayak fishing - an archive of content, media and information related to coastal kayak fishing that is updated regularly. With a mandate to appeal to all manner of kayak fishos, yakass aims to entertain, educate and inspire. Yakass is Australian based and as such maintains a uniquely Aussie flavour.
Q: Dare I ask... what is a yakass?
A: Josh coined the phrase 'yakass' as a compound word to have a couple of meanings, most obvious of which is it's relation to the phrase 'jackass'. In this sense, yakass refers to someone who does crazy things from a kayak... such as paddling off shore and catching big fish from it. It's other meaning is more simplistic - a kayak fisho spends a lot of time sitting in the 'yak' - on their 'ass' no less. In that sense, we're all yakass's!
Q: What is 'Yakbook?'
A: Yakbook is a community themed application that provides significant social networking capabilities for Yakass members. Fully integrated with all site features, Yakbook allows users to create personalized profiles from which they can share information, photos, videos, join discussions & groups as well as earn 'mojo' points. Mojo points is a user-ranking system that is scored based upon user activity. Mojo points will factor into numerous site features such as user privileges, competitions and discounts.
Q: What is YCKFS?
Yakass Coastal Kayak Fishing Show (YCKFS) is the spirtual successor to War on Fish, which was an episodic video journal covering Josh's kayak fishing adventures on the east coast of Australia, from Nov 2009 to Nov 2010. YCKFS follows a similar format, but is recorded with better cameras (and more of them) and audio equipment, and published by way of superior editing software. A lot like the yakass website itself, YCKFS aims to entertain, educate and inspire.
