Pick a watersport... almost any watersport... and try to think of an essential accessory that applies equally to them; activities from fishing, kayaking to sailing and paddle-boading... or even just lazing around on the beach after doing any one of those things. Those of you who immediately thought of sunglasses go straight to the top of the class. Speaking of 'top-of-class', given that Hobie have forged their reputation around watersports gear, it follows that they'd have sunglasses within their portfolio of products as well. No one should be surprised by that but what might surprise some is just how good Hobie's sunglasses are. These aren't just some re-badged shades Hobie make to fill out their catalogue, but are in fact very high quality sunglasses built to their own specifications.
You can go back through my photo gallery or youtube videos as you like and you'll never see anything other than Hobie sunnies on my mug and there's a reason for it. Having lost my second pair over the weekend I replaced them immediately with another pair, which should tell you a thing or two about how I feel about them. I don't wear them because of the illustrious logo they sport - I wear them because they are the best polaroid sunnies I've ever worn and I'm comparing them to Maui Jim and Spotters, which are two other well-known brands that I've used. I've found the optics superior to Spotters and on par with Maui Jim. Where I've found them out-perform Maui Jim is in durability, both frames and lens (which incorporates what Hobie call 'Hydroclean technology'). To be honest, I've been constantly amazed just how much abuse my Hobie sunnies have endured and survived. Not only did I have no hesitation replacing my previous replacement pair, I've got no hesitations in recommending them to anyone into watersporting.
Hobie themselves are rightfully proud of their sunglasses, listed at Hobie.com as one of their 6 main product categories (alongside surfboards, stand up paddleboards, sailboats, kayaks and clothing), which is where the full range can be viewed. I'm unsure if the full range is currently available through Aussie Hobie dealers, though most models are available on Hobie's own online shop.
