Feeling Buff

Author: Carl

While fishing away in the kayak I have been wearing one of those tubular pieces of cloth made by Buff. I find this an excellent piece of protective clothing when out on a kayak. As you will see on their website there is large range of applications where this item comes in handy. The one I currently have in the standard one that when used along with my Frillneck hat affords me excellent sun and wind protection.

The main uses I have for the Buff is as a face mask: protection from the sun and wind, to stopping insects crawling up your nose or in your ears (try fishing Teemburra at night and you'll know what I mean or fishing in sandfly infested creek systems), as a scarf to keep the neck protected from the sun or cold (wetting it on a hot day is an excellent way to cool down), as beanie for cool nights or when those pesky sandflies want to crawl through your hair.

Even our famous cross Tasman kayakers used the Buff on their adventure trip from Australia to New Zealand. I will be looking a getting at least one more of the High UV buffs to give me that higher level of protection then my current standard one offers. Overall these are very versatile and can be used in any outdoor activities in either the heat or cold. As well as the standard and High UV Buffs there are also ones that come with a visor, others that are made for extreme environments for the very cold and windy as well as a Safety Buff that is High Visibility with reflective strips on it for low light situations.

On the Buff site there is a video of all the different ways you wear the buff as well all the different patterns and colours available. There are 3 main sizes: Adult, Junior and Baby so there is something for everyone. I know 'H' has one and that Paulo wanted one after seeing them in use on the Fraser trip last year. These would also make ideal gifts for anyone partaking in the great Aussie outdoors.
