Innovator Nitro Voodoo

Author: josh

When Jay took the plunge into the world of Nitro rod-bending goodness he was of course interested in my opinion on which models he should be looking at (after all, I've been using Nitro rods for years now), specifically for his primary kayak fishing interests; flicksticking for bream/tailor/trevally/flathead and a heavier counterpart to go along with it earmarked for trolling up jewies from the Brunswick river depths. It was a good time for me to refresh myself on the range of Nitro models and when I looked, spotted a new inclusion to the bunch, the relatively new Nitro Voodoo. Along with a whole bunch of other applications I could think of for this rod, one of them was Jay and his beloved jewies. Turns out I was right about that.

Although Jay doesn't often get the opportunity to get out chasing snapper, I do, and this is another application I immediately thought of. And with snapper season now in full swing I figured now would be a perfect time to put that to the test. I've matched this 3-5kg lean, mean fish-crunching machine with an Okuma V45 spooled with 15lb mono. Not only do I intend to use this rod to cast heavy plastics, blades and jigs at fish boils ups, I'll also be using it for bottom bashing and casting & retrieving along reefy structure. Although I don't normally favour this type of skeletal butt style, it's 8.5" length seems to be pretty much spot on for use in a kayak.

I'm really looking forward to giving this rod a thorough thrashing, starting tomorrow and forever onwards.
