So I keept tossing around some 3” Watermelon pearls for bream and flathead, heading down stream against the current. I felt a good hit, had a nice little drag scream and the Nitro Ultrabream loaded up nicely. Hoping for a corker of a bream, I couldn't help but laugh when a just legal soapie Jewfish appeared at the side of the yak. Photographed and released, I made my way down through slack and turning tide to the hole that Balls and I had experienced some smoking runs from some 3kg Big Eye Trevalley in previous days. Things were quiet. Time to head home and flick a few lures about tight into some deep corners for more bream. The occasional rat hit and miss turned into a reel peeler right around the corner from the boat ramp. Knowing that the 4lb braid I had spooled was pretty close to the end of it's working life, I went easy on the drag, read that as I ended up chasing this fish nearly 500m down the river. I netted him after wearing him down. 57Cm of Jewfish flavoured goodness sparkling in the Midday sun.

With the catch secured and dispatched, I thought I'd call it quits for the day and troll the almost destroyed Rapala Shadrap home. A minute later the Nitro Voodoo bent over with a yet another 50cm flathead on the end, tearing more wire through the balsa at the tail end of the lure with it's solid head shakes. As my wife was getting pretty sick of eating Jewfish (Soup, dumplings, curry, crispy skin, fish cakes, icecream) I kept this nice little specimen and sped or home. Still unable to boat a single bream. This coming week has some poor weather ahead, however I hope for attempt number three at finding something bream like higher up the system. Never know what's going to turn up these days.
