Yakass competitions - win stuff!

Winner winner, chicken dinner

Author: josh

To pick a winner in the Epic Safety Tips thread competition I made life easy on myself by putting a bunch of names into a hat and the first name drawn would be declared winner, which just so happened to be Rollerboy. Congradutions mate, you now own an MTI Riptide Type 2 kayaking PFD, as well as a packet of Ikado 102 rubber squid jigs and the new Rapala Mini Charge and Glow. Thanks to Rapala and Maclean Outdoors for supplying the prizes. I'll be in touch via PM to get a delivery address from you.

Although the draw was randomly picked, I was pleased to note that his tip was a good one and simple as it is, is well worth repeating. It was:

Keep emergency gear in dry bags, have a snack that is high in energy and become familiarly and confident in using the emergency equipment you have as there is no time for this in an emergency.

DB's kayak has a name

Bream Reaper!

Today is the day where we announce the winner of the "Name Dunebuggy's PA" competition. We had some very imaginative entries and it was difficult to pick a winner. Quite a few tickled my fancy and a couple of entries had me wishing I had another kayak to name. That could be on the cards too. So, who is the winner? Well, it was a tough choice and very close between a couple of entries but in the finish, it came down to a choice between "Bream Reaper" and "Driftwood" but my congratulations must go to yakass member "possum" for her entry of "Bream Reaper" . Thanks to everyone who entered and helped to solve my dilema. The "Bream Reaper" will be adorned with it's new name soon.

Congratulations possum. Josh will be in touch with you shortly to arrange your prize.

Safety tips thread competition

Author: josh

If there's anything I regret about the way in which the Yakass website was recently upgraded from v.2 to v.3, it was the sacrificing of the forum posts. There was one particular thread that I miss the most and I'd like to get it back. That was the 'kayak fishing safety tips' thread, which quickly grew to a sizable collection of some of the best safety suggestions going. I'm expecting our collective effort here to out-do our the previous thread though, after all, we're all a bit older and wiser now than we were before and on top of that, there's more of us now. And we didn't even have any prizes on offer to inspire those posts last time... but this time we do. Given the topic of this competition is intended to encompasses kayak fishing safety and everything to do with it, it's suitable that the main prize would be related to the topic.

May I introduce you to the MTI Riptide Type 2 kayaking PFD, which I might add, is perfectly designed for kayak fishing, both in open and enclosed waters. After marvelling at the materials, design and quality of manufacturing, inside the pockets of the Riptide vest, the winner of this competition is going to find a packet of Ikado 102 rubber squid jigs featuring the new 'swing weight system' as well as the new Rapala Mini Charge and Glow, which could be used to charge the illumination of said jigs for maximum effect. Thanks to Rapala and Maclean Outdoors for the prizes!

i-yoke competition winner

Author: josh

It was a relatively narrow field to choose from in picking a random winner for the Hobie i-yoke competition, as one of the requisites for qualification was a mojo of 50 points. Stevo poked his nose in with a mojo of 52 and was fortunate enough to be the first name that came up among them. Congradulations Stevo, I'll be sending you a PM to get your postal details shortly. You're now the proud owner of a brand-spanking Hobie i-yoke inflatable PFD, right in time for Xmas. Onya!

Name Dunebuggy's PA competition

Author: josh

Poor old Yakasser Dunebuggy is in a bit of a pickle. Due to having recently purchased a whole lot of new gear, from cars, computers and kayak, what with having to spend countless hours with a head buried in manuals trying to figure out how to use it all, valuable grey matter is being consumed and is draining his imagination. Ergo, he needs our help and he needs it fast. His almost brand-spanking Hobie Pro Angler (x-tournament model) is without a name, and this just won't do. And that's where we come in.

V3 launch comp winner

Author: josh

I've drawn the winner of the Yakass V3 website launch competition and it took a few goes to find that winner because the first draws came up with members that had not yet added an avatar. *doh* to you. Kevin Spriggs, on the other hand, AKA 'Sprike' had indeed done the deed and as such is the lucky winner of the competition. Kevin will be receiving 6 Williamson jigs in the post real-soon-now™. I haven't received the prizes as of yet, and might not get a chance to send them off until I return from Fraser Island.

Win a Hobie i-yoke
