Kayak: Hobie Adventure Island Trimaran 2011 ~ 'Triple Hex'
Hobie's Adventure Island (AI) trimaran is one of the most versatile and capable kayak fishing platform available today. At it's core is the time-proven Mirage Adventure kayak, a slender 16' length pedal & paddle powered sit-on-top hull. Fully configured with pontoons, akas and roller-furling mainsail the Adventure becomes an AI, instantly transformed into a trimaran capable of being sailed in various water and weather conditions. It can also be used as an outrigger, fitted with a single-pontoon for ultra-stable Polynesian-style kayaking. Modular enough to be deployed as a kayak, outrigger or trimaran and optionally propelled with pedals, paddle or sail, AIs are equally at home on lakes, dams & rivers as they are in open ocean water.
Due to the inclusion of roller-furl operated mainsail, the AI is very simple to use and given the right conditions the AI is also capable of going faster & further with a lot less effort than a typical kayak. Because of the additional stability and buoyancy provided by the pontoons, the AI is also capable of carrying more gear comfortably. This makes them an excellent prospect for kayak camping adventures or crab pot deployment. For AI users wind isn't always a liability - sometimes it's an asset. Especially when trolling lures for pelagic fish at high speeds or reaching that distant island or reef otherwise too far away to paddle to. Situations like these are where the AI can excel. Due to their versatility, however, they can also be used in much the same way as almost any other kayak as well. For all of the reasons mentioned above, Josh has been using an AI for over 3 years and will probably be doing so for the next 30.
