Hobie have sent word that their tandem inflatable kayak (i14) has been used to great success by a National geographic film crew during their shoot on a documentary called Great Migrations. According to the presenters, the pedal-style kayak made it possible for the photographers to get within 8' of Sperm whales. Pretty cool stuff, which you can catch here.
I'd already proven to myself how effective pedal-powered kayaks were in getting close to whales so I didn't need to watch this clip to find out. Ironically, however, my efforts weren't met with the same sort of approval. Quite the opposite actually. Rightly so I suppose, because it was a dangerous incident and it did give me quite a fright. That said, I'm not sure I wouldn't do it again.
