Custom kayak fishing gaff

Author: josh

altI've been using an X-tools floating fishing gaff for some time now, though somehow I managed to lose it recently (probably over the side of the kayak). If I could find one, I'd replace it with another X-tools gaff, though I haven't had any luck finding them locally and have been told that they're a lot like hens teeth. With that in mind I set about finding some other surrogate.

I figured this in-expensive short-handled Juro model would do for now. However, the 3" of plastic tubing covering it's tip was never going to last long unsecured like it was, so I remidied this by using a longer length of plastic tube and attaching it to the shaft of the gaff with cable ties. This way I won't misplace the point protector and thus should be less likely to impale myself with it. I've also attached one of my beloved stainless snap clips to provide a simple way of securing into to the kayak, using one of the cable ties to secure it in place. Here's the result. I think it'll work pretty well. yakass_kayak_fishing_gaff
