Today I thought I'd put to the test the theory that I've cracked the Jewie code (secrets I will share at a later date) and could go out in a short space of time and get myself a 4kg plus sized specimen to prove it. So I did. Once at my spot X, it only took me twenty minutes to boat two Jewfish and a tailor.
Trolling a pair of Rapala Shad Raps, a 5cm and 7cm profile simultaneously, everything hit the 7cm and not the 5cm, inverse to my previous experiences. The SR07 collected some impressive tooth marks whereas the SR05 was untouched.
First Jew went 50cm and was released fast, next hookup was five minutes later, found him skulking at the bottom of the tide behind a rock bar in about 1.7m of dirty water. I had a few anxious moments when the fish returned to the rock bar near the surface and went for a little run around the rocks. Using the bottom end grunt of the Nitro Voodoo I managed to avoid catastrophe by stopping him in his tracks and hauling him up and over the rocks. Once landed, closer inspection of my shredded leader showed some serious fairy floss style fraying, an almost miss in my books. A 40cm odd tailor came later on the way back, released also.
Weird thing, I've been on the river for a serious amount of hours, but up until today I had never seen a cane toad cross the salty section of the river. Go figure.
