Admittedly, I'm not the kind of yak fisho that is inclined to carry an insulated cooler box (otherwise known as an 'esky' here in Australia) on the back of my kayak, but many do and for good reason. For those who paddle around lakes, rivers & estuaries chasing table-worthy fish, having a cooler box to put them into is a sure way to keep them fresh & tasty. Back in the day when that was more my style, I did try a few different models and came across a few I liked. But none so attractive as the 22lt Waeco variant that two members of our camping group had on the weekend.
This box is roto-moulded to near perfection, has good insulation, a good seal and ideal clips to lock it shut. It's 22lt size seems to be pretty much perfect for the rear well of a kayak. At least, it fits perfectly into the rear of an Adventure hull and pictured above is an example of it sitting in the rear well of an Outback. Whilst it's not the cheapest cooler boxes on the market, given it's quality, at around AU$80 it's not likely to let anyone down. If you're in the market for a suitable cooler box for kayak fishing, be sure to check out the Waeco 22lt model.
